    Hummus

Lately I’ve been craving versatile dishes including this hummus that serves as an appetizer, side dish, or flavorful addition to your main meal.  Lemony and bright, which is the way I love it, the recipe can be adapted if you prefer less citrus.  Hummus also has the benefit of giving you plenty of plant-based protein from chickpeas and tahini, making it a great dish to add into your weekly rotation.  Serve it with pita chips and vegetables or round out a nice board with grape leaves, olives, roasted peppers, and the like.  The possibilities are rather endless, and I also suggest using it as a delicious sandwich spread. For the…

    Guacamole

Topped with grilled corn, pico de gallo, and optional cheese, this guacamole is a the perfect dip, though it certainly should make its way to your tacos, enchiladas, and even be used as a toast or sandwich spread.  Ripe avocados star in the Mexican staple plus lime, onion, tomato, and seasonings. Layer on the toppings or simply make the base recipe, and either way, you’ll find it satisfying and delicious. Summer being just about here, I wanted to give you a recipe for something bright and fresh to carry you into a new season.  Local corn and tomatoes are arriving at the markets and soon will be overflowing our gardens. …

    Caesar Dressing

Lighter than most creamy versions, this homemade Caesar dressing is packed with the flavors of the classic but relies on Greek yogurt as its base. If you love Caesar dressing as a salad topping or dip, this recipe will satisfy your cravings and make you feel just a bit better about using extra.  While you’re changing things up, feel free to veer from the traditional romaine lettuce and add in some different greens or change up the vegetables altogether.  As a final touch, I highly recommend slices of delicious garlic bread on the side instead of croutons. When I am inspired to make traditional favorites in new ways, Greek yogurt…

Roasted Carrots with Green Garlic Dip

Even if you haven’t cooked with green garlic, chances are you have seen it at the market and maybe even mistaken it for a scallion.  Harvested during spring, the young allium is fresher, lighter, and slightly milder than mature garlic with a flavor that tends toward onion.   Look for the beginnings of a bulb and flat green leaves (or reach out to me with a snapshot!) to make sure you have the right ingredient for this healthy dip.  Serve it with small rainbow carrots for a vegetable and dip pairing that’s fit for the season. As a universal spring dip, this recipe also works well with other raw and…

    Dill Tzatziki

Often served with grilled meats, tzatziki offers the quintessential flavors that get me craving Greek food. In fact, there are variety of similar yogurt-based dips and sauces from throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East. Serve this version as a dip, a sauce for meat skewers known as souvlaki, or dive right in with some pita. There are a few tricks to making tzatziki at home. First is to drain the liquid from the yogurt and cucumbers before mixing ingredients. This entails some waiting, but it’s well worth the time and prevents a watery sauce. Cucumbers are full of liquid, which can cause the tzatziki to separate. Another must is to…
